REVIEW

First of all, thank you to Inkslinger PR and Alyssa for giving me a copy of Wrecked to review.

This is the first book I’ve read by Alyssa Rose ivy, so I had no background in about the Clayton Falls universe. Honestly, I didn’t even notice this was a continuation of this series until I started writing this post! You do not need to read the other two books to enjoy this one.

This story is about Jake and Emily, both characters who have some issues, but also they are both characters who take charge, accept responsibility, and move forward. That’s nice to see in a NA book these days. Jake might’ve been a bad boy, and maybe he thinks about it on occasion in the book, but he’s ready to make changes when he meets Emily, his nurse, as he’s recovering from a horrible drunk driving accident.

I would like to talk all about Emily because she’s the one with the twists in this story, but it’s a spoiler, so I can’t. But Emily was a strong and motivated woman. Maybe that word seems… cold, or harsh… but it’s a good one to describe how Emily picks up the broken parts of her life and moves on.

When Emily meets Jake she’s attracted to him but she’s still very concerned with keeping her life predictable and on track. Jake does find his way into her heart (and other places!) pretty easily though. This is really the only part that gave me pause. The physical part happened pretty fast, but I was OK with it.

Wrecked is the second NA book this week that had an unusual plot to it and it’s killing me not to spill it! But I liked it, in fact, I hope more NA books pick up on this and start writing about life instead of just bad boys who want to turn good. Because new adult is about more than romance. There’s a lot of stuff happening during this time and Emily’s story is the perfect example. She’s got grown up problems and she handles them in grown up ways.

I thoroughly enjoyed Wrecked and I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a story that presents imperfect people, imperfect circumstances, and real solutions.
