GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: Carnelian by B. Kristin McMichael
Carnelian centers around Seth and Mari. They are meant to be together according got Seth, but Mari is not exactly falling for the cute guy just because he says that. Instead she overheads that she is to be number twenty-four on his list of conquests and decides to pass on his attempts to woo her, but that is easier said than done as Seth doesn’t plan to make it easy for her. Meeting Seth for the first time: I closed my book and looked up from under the maple canopy to the blue sky above. I had a normal life, but girls in books always went on adventures. I guess that was what going far off to college was to me, an adventure. My future was already planned, but I’d give anything to be one of those heroines. I wanted to live the life I found in these books. I… Read more »
GUEST REVIEW: Beautiful Addictions by Season Vining
Beautiful Addictions by Season Vining Publication date January 28th, 2014 I would like to thank both St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this eARC. Although I received this book for free, in no way did that influence my review. Twenty-two year old Josie Banks leads a rough life by most anyone’s standards. She does whatever drugs she gets her hands on, sleeps with total strangers for drugs, a place to sleep, or simply as a distraction from her messed up life. She doesn’t remember life being anything other than hard. Her life consists of her tagging around the city, drugs, sex, and bringing food to her friend Gavin, who then distributes it to the homeless kids in the area. The only time that pattern is interrupted is when her former social worker, Monica, stops by her place. Monica is always trying to get Josie to clean… Read more »

NEW RELEASE EXCERPT: The Hardest Part by Heather London
EXCERPT “Here, take this. We don’t have much time.” Mike’s frantic voice was loud in my ear. Still dazed, I glanced up at him and saw he was holding an envelope out for me to take. My eyes stared at the envelope, but I couldn’t make myself reach out for it. “Emily.” Mike’s voice was soft but firm. “I know this is a lot to take in, but I need you to concentrate. Take the envelope.” He enunciated the last few words slowly, carefully. My hands shook as I reached out for it. “I’m not sure I can do this, Mike.” I finally found my voice. “This is crazy. I—I don’t know where to go.” Once I had the envelope in my grasp, it felt like it weighed a hundred pounds. “You can do this. This life you’ve been living, this isn’t a life for you. Anywhere is better than… Read more »
iPad Mini GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Abandon by Cassia Leo
I’ve read and reviewed the entire Shattered Hearts series so far and I think this one might be my favorite. I know I said that after book three, Bring Me Home, but I liked seeing the chaos that was Tristan’s past. I did not expect some of the twists in his story and it was far darker than I could ever have imagined. It’s no wonder that he was the aloof and careless person we saw in Clair and Chris’ story. In Abandon, Tristan is dealing with so much all at once. First he learns that his grandmother, the woman who raised him and his sister because his junkie of a mother was incapable, is dying. Then the consequences of unprotected impulse sex with Senia come back to haunt him in the form of an unplanned pregnancy. But the two twists of fate might be synergistic – Tristan thinks maybe… Read more »
FRIDAY NIGHT FREEBIE – Double Feature Giveaway
I released a new book this week so naturally I hog the Friday Night Freebie when that happens, but something else also happened this week – two things actually, but one is a giveaway so you’re gonna wanna hear that. Last month I joined a new author group – I’m already part of Indie Inked, and those girls make appearances on this blog a lot because, well honestly, they are all rising stars. LP Dover, Ella James, Cambria Hebert, Heidi McLaughlin, Alexia Purdy, AO Peart, Anna Cruise, Amber Garza, Cameo Renae, Melissa Andrea – to just to name some of them. There are like 20 of us I guess. But you may notice that we don’t all write in the same genre. So it becomes hard to cross promote another author’s work because my fans might not want to hear about young adult books, or paranormal books, or fantasy etc…. Read more »
GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: Cup of Life by Juliana Haygert
EXCERPT I finished the beer, considered going back to bed, but decided Zelen would keep snoring, and I could use another drink. I threw the empty bottle in the trash and opened the fridge. I closed it when I heard mumbling. I kept still, paying attention to it. The mumbling sounded louder this time, and I followed it. I ended up facing the first bedroom’s door. Nadine’s. “No,” I heard her voice through the door. “Oh, God, please, no!” Knowing exactly what was going on, I swung the door open and entered the bedroom. “Nicole,” she whimpered, thrashing in her bed. “No, no!” I closed the door behind me and rushed to her side. “Nadine,” I called her, touching her shoulder. “Wake up, Nadine.” “Oh, God, Morgan.” Then she screamed. I grabbed her upper arms and shook her, not too hard, but not too gentle either. “Nadine!” Her scream died… Read more »
