Frenched

Mia Devine plans over-the-top weddings for a living. So when it comes to her own nuptials, she spares no expense—hand engraved invitations, Vera Wang gown, luxury honeymoon in France. And since her fiancé is Tucker Branch, playboy heir and notorious flirt, local media is obsessed with every little detail.

Which is why it really sucks when he jilts her a week before the wedding.

Mortified, Mia wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity, right after blabbing to the world how fitting it is that Tucker will inherit a bolt and screw company, because that’s all he wants to do—screw, and bolt. And he doesn’t do either with much finesse.

When her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, she grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of a week in Paris alone.

She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.

The free-spirited musician’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn't just a myth.

Nor is the simultaneous O.

The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy La Vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with him is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.

Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?

C’est  tres bonne!

This is the first book I’ve read by Melanie Harlow and it won’t be the last. Frenched is my favorite kind of story to read; it’s smart, funny, emotional, and very sexy. I found myself smiling through entire chapters, unable to stop reading. The story captures your interest immediately and you instantly bond with the characters in the book.

We meet Mia just days after her fiancé dumps her only a week before their mega-wedding of the year is supposed to take place. She’s devastated, humiliated, and heart-broken. With the encouragement from her two best friends, and the threat of a visit from her mother, she decides to go on her would-be honeymoon to Paris. When arriving in Paris, she remains in a sour mood as she is alone and cannot escape the overwhelming amount of romance in the city of lights. Everywhere she looks she sees romantic gestures and contemplates leaving to wallow in her misery back home in Detroit.

To escape her depressing feelings she ends up in a Canadian bar, sipping delicious wine and chatting about her disastrous encounters and her life’s humiliations to an American-French bartender, Lucas Fournier. Lucas is quick to challenge Mia on her feelings about Paris and her attitude towards life, and offers to be her tour guide around Paris in hopes of changing her perspective.

Opposites attract, right? But what if these two people aren’t so different, are they willing to bend on things that they thought were the core of their own beliefs and dreams? Mia is a planner, Lucas is a living for the moment kind of guy. Are they right for each other, or just perfect for a fling together? I loved experiencing this book with these two…and I think you will too. And in Mia fashion, here’s my list with reasons why I loved this book, and I think you will too.

5 REASONS I ENJOYED “BEING” FRENCHED

  •  I was immediately captivated by the encounters between Lucas and Mia. I felt myself falling in love with both of them as their relationship deepened and grew. The places they went in Paris were unique, utterly charming, and deeply romantic.
  •  I loved being in Mia’s head as she doubted her attraction for Lucas.  She was, after all, just dumped and battled with herself on whether to act on her attraction to this surprisingly hot man.

Hmm. I guess he’s growing on me.

Haha, growing on me.

Turning my cheek so he couldn’t see the smile I was trying to hide, I berated myself for the dirty thought. Stop it Mia. And don’t even look at his crotch right now. Don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t-

I did it. I couldn’t help myself.

  • I adored the conversations and honesty between these characters. Mia opened up to Lucas about things that bothered her in her relationship with Tucker. I felt it was so therapeutic for Mia to do this in order to move on from her previous relationship.  In a sense, it helped her define what she was really looking for in her future.
  •  I found Lucas to be an intriguing and refreshing character. He was by far a romantic at heart, but at the same time I was surprised by his demanding and wild sexiness. In a way, he defined a new kind of alpha-male; romantic to a fault, witty with a sense of humor, sensitive, yet extremely domineering.

He fucking tied. Me. Up.

“This is what happens when you tease me, Mia. When you make me feel helpless to resist you. I have to make you feel helpless too.”

I had no fucking idea how much being treated this way would turn me on-I was feverish and panting and shaking.

…this Lucas was demanding and unapologetic and slightly frightening.

Goddamn it was hot.

I wanted him more than I’d ever wanted anyone or anything, ever.

  • Dirty, bedroom talk. Luke is freaking awesome, and he can FRENCH me anytime!

I loved this book! Can’t wait to read more from Melanie Harlow.
