Review:
I really enjoyed this series. It’s light-hearted and sweet. A perfect escape on a rainy Saturday. I loved that there wasn’t a lot of drama, I just enjoyed escaping my mommy role and getting lost in the spotlight of Annie and her life. And what a life it is! Hot men. That can dance. (Swoon) Cameos are made by other characters from other series – which always put a smile on my face (shout to the the Halo series and Avery!). And sex. Yep, there’s lots of fun sex. And humor. This last installment is a pure delight.
Annie is NYC bound and ready to give it her all as the reality super star show is taking place. New friends are made. Romance is continuing. And then there’s some drama. And old flames (and possible new) make there way into Annie’s already stressed out life. I liked how this book shows the reader the life behind the scenes of a reality music show. We feel Annie’s nerves as she sings during competition week. And we anxiously hold our breath as results come in. Annie is nervous about a lot in this book, but throughout the highs and lows, she is true to herself, and won’t let anything, or anyone stop her from pursuing her dream. Gotta love her for that!
Audrey Harte’s writing is fun. I enjoyed her humor throughout the story and especially liked the banter between characters. In this book we meet Annie’s new friend, Erin. Erin is one of those secondary characters I just love. Because I relate to her and felt connected to her immediately! And I’m thrilled that I’ll get more insight into her love life as she’s getting her own book!!! (Can’t wait for that one!) One thing that surprised me was the pace towards the end of this story. It seemed a bit rushed and I was hoping for a bit more between the last chapter and epilogue. I almost got whiplash from the happenings towards the end and I wish it was slowed down a bit.
Overall, if you’re looking for a sweet, charming read, this is a series for you. Great story Audrey, I’m glad to have met Annie!
Special Excerpt:
The results show went better than Annie could have hoped for. She was the first contestant that was declared safe by Kyle Atkinson as he read the results of the previous evening’s vote, beating out another female vocalist from Chicago. Pure Flow was declared safe not long after her, beating out the East LA Dance Crew, and although she wasn’t announced until almost last, Erin also pulled through to the next round, beating out a male vocalist from Seattle.
Choosing her next song was difficult, as Annie’s first instinct was to go with something she felt comfortable singing. But she knew this wasn’t the time to play it safe. It was time to take risks and push her limits, and she had a full week to rehearse, so there were no excuses for not being ready to give an incredible performance the next time she hit that stage. After listening to dozens of songs, she finally settled on one of her favorites by Florence and the Machine, Dog Days Are Over.
That week of rehearsals was intense, but Annie embraced it. She thrived under pressure, giving every performance one hundred and ten percent. And just when she thought she had nothing left to give, her vocal coach would ignite something inside her, and she would put her previous performances to shame.
By the time the next show rolled around, she was on fire, more than ready to take on all the other finalists and blow them away, leaving them coughing in the dust behind her. It only figured that in the midst of her basking in the applause that thundered around her as she finished her song, she would see the one person who could ruin the entire evening for her. Kayla Miles.
What the fuck is she doing here?
