Genres: Chick Lit, Contemporary, Romance, romantic comedy Julia Boyd has dated more than her share of jerks, and she’s done even pretending to like them. Putting her dating life on hold and focusing on her event planning career is a much safer bet for the blue-eyed blonde…until she meets her newest client.
Organizing the opening for an art gallery should be a breeze for Julia, but gallery owner Alex Holt is becoming very distracting. Tall and muscular with enough charisma and sexy dimples to make Julia swoon, Alex could be the perfect man. The two of them click immediately, creating enough witty banter to ignite sparks.
But just before flames of passion can erupt with Alex, Julia begins planning an engagement party…and learns the groom is Aiden, the man who broke her heart years ago. When Aiden admits that he still has feelings for Julia, everything changes. Should she seek shelter in the familiarity of the past, or should she risk everything on a brand-new love?

I was in a slump this month. You know when you read a handful of good books and can’t get into anything else… A friend recommended Barbie Bohrman’s Playing it Safe, and I’m so thankful she did!
This book made me laugh out loud. Julia is a hilarious… she made me snort. Julia is in a rut in the guy department. She’s had some real stellar dates, and I mean that totally sarcastically. Her best friend moved away, and she feels like her life is on the spin cycle. Enter flirty and drop dead gorgeous Alex. Alex looks like Josh Holloway. (swoon)When he and Julia flirt, the banter is off the charts adorable, hot, and made me connect to them in the best way!
The secondary characters in this story only added to the fun and charming journey. Alex and Julia, a kinda friends to lover story which made me laugh, sigh, and swoon. Once I got into this book, I couldn’t put it down. You will love Alex. It’s impossible to not adore his devotion and charm. Julia, while she curses like a sailor, is funny and witty. I found myself rooting for her, and only wanting to shake her silly once!
I highly recommend this delightful romantic comedy! I also cannot wait for her new release, Starting Over, out this spring!
