GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: PROFILE (Social Media #5)
EXCERPT I knock again. “Gra-aaace.” I blow out a breath of air and look over my shoulder at Bigmy. “She’s still here, right? I mean, she never left last night.” “She never left, boss. Someone was here all night.” “What time did you leave?” “Hmmm.” He hums as he thinks. “The guard from Ray’s team relieved me around midnight, I think? I got called back after a few hours. You were already asleep on the couch. The doorman saw me.” I knock again, but the feeling in the pit of my stomach can’t be denied. Something is wrong. “Grace,” I call out, pressing my forehead to the wooden door. “Answer me or I’m coming in.” I press my ear up against the door and listen. Nothing. “Here.” I thrust the coffee and muffin at Bigmy and fish through my pocket for the key to Grace’s apartment. I push it into… Read more »

$25 GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: Dead New World by Ryan Hill
“Everyone save a bullet for yourselves.” Ambrose handed Ollie his pistol, giving him two to use. I pulled my own handgun out. Despite the presence of the Reverend, or because of it, the zombies continued their pursuit. They were almost within fifty feet of what remained of our squad, and Ambrose was the only one still shooting. “Ollie, build us a fire,” Ambrose said over his gunshots. Ollie dove into his backpack and pulled out a firewall. He tore the plastic tube open and removed several feet of a putty-like substance. Stretching it out with his hands, he made a circle around us. He lit a match and tossed it at the firewall, igniting it. The putty burst into a five-foot high flame that surrounded us. Zombies hated fire. They wouldn’t come anywhere near it. The firewall slowed the dead meat down, and we unloaded the rest of our ammunition… Read more »
GIVEAWAY and GUEST POST: Day Zero by Summer Lane
Inspiration for Day Zero I came up with the title for Day Zero shortly after I finished the third or fourth chapter of the book. The spot on the earth’s surface that is closest to where a detonation takes place is often called Ground Zero. It is, in fact, the aftermath of a disastrous event. The storyline of my novel certainly fit that description, so I called Elle’s story Day Zero, because society finds itself back at the drawing board after an electromagnetic pulse disables the technological infrastructure of the entire country. I visited Santa Monica, Hollywood and the greater Los Angeles area when I was in high school. I was working as a writer in high school, although I had yet to publish a novel. I always thought Los Angeles would be a fascinating place to set a post-apocalyptic novel. With Day Zero I was able to do so…. Read more »
GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: STATUS by JA Huss

Then I settle in the lounge chair next to Grace and open up my own Twitter account and navigate to the Dirty Heaven list while I chew on my dinner. I snap a picture of Grace with my laptop camera. She’s got a towel wrapped around her because she was chilled after our last swim, so she’s not naked. MovieStar @VaughnAsher @FilthyBlueBird You look #Fuckable… Her laptop pings a new interaction and I take a big bite of burger and chew as she reads it. The look on her face… priceless. “Oh yeah, baby. Game. On. Tonight.” She rolls her eyes and tries to continue her conversation with Bebe, but even I can hear the screaming coming from the phone as my tweet filters out to the world. MovieStar @VaughnAsher… Read more »

$25 GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: Scratch by Rhonda Helms
EXCERPT “When I was a kid I would stay in the pool for hours until I wrinkled,” Daniel said. Somehow while we treaded water he’d moved closer to me, and I could feel the moving water beneath the surface pulsing against my own legs. “In fact, in elementary school I wanted to be an Olympic diver. I had no fear.” “I can just imagine.” A tiny Daniel, diving into the pool, his scrawny body plunging the surface as he practiced relentlessly. “What made you change your mind?” “I look terrible in Speedos.” His grin widened and he gave a cheeky laugh. I laughed in response. “I used to pretend I was a mermaid. I’d sit on the bottom of the pool and press my legs together and make believe they were a tail.” How many hours my sister and I had lived in our neighborhood’s pool. She’d refused to go… Read more »
