Review: Emerge, Book 1 in the Evolve Series

Review: Emerge, Book 1 in the Evolve Series

Emerge, book one in S.E. Hall’s Evolve series, broke my heart and then slowly put the pieces back together. There may still be a few still missing, but I’m hopeful that book 2 will help mend those too. I’m late to this series and I’m kicking myself in the ass for not bumping this up to the top of my reading list. I have had this book in my Kindle library for months, MONTHS! What was I waiting for?  If you have it in your library, stop what you’re reading and start this series. You won’t be sorry. S. E. Hall has created a sweet and endearing book consisting of likeable characters who tell a story about love, friendship, loyalty and growing up. I connected with the characters immediately. Throughout the book, I felt like I was right there, experiencing each moment with the crew of characters. I channeled my… Read more »

Review: Elect by Rachel Van Dyken

Review: Elect by Rachel Van Dyken

Wow. So while the first book in The Eagle Elite series took me a bit to get into ( although I loved it once the plot began to come together,) Elect started off like a runaway freight train, full speed ahead. The short prologue set the bar high with edge of the seat suspense. Then the love triangle ripped my heart out, squeezing it into unrecognizable pieces. Generally, I’m not really a fan of love triangles. They often feel like forced devices that are inserted just to add a bit of drama and tension, without feeling authentic.  Elect doesn’t suffer from that problem at all. I can see a very real reason why Tracey would be drawn to both Nixon and Chase. While Nixon is my personal choice, he truly has pushed her into Chase’s arms–literally–at every turn. Chase is the boy whose always there. Chase picks her up when… Read more »

REVIEW: Text by Cambria Hebert

REVIEW: Text by Cambria Hebert

I was so excited to see Text by Cambria Hebert. I loved Torch, so I was sure this one was going to be good. I mean, it’s about an author, and a marine. I used to be a military wife, and I’m an author, so both of these things were intriguing to me. So of course, I went in with high hopes. I was wrong in the very best kind of way. It wasn’t just ‘good.’ It was out of this world funny, sizzling hot, amazing, captivating and impossible to put down. You would think that a book about a firefighter (Torch) would be hotter than a book about an author and a marine, but you’d be wrong. I especially loved the way we really got to see Honour’s thought process. She’s such a fun, spunky narrator. This book is one you’ve just got to read. The beginning… Read more »

BLITZ: The Edge of Always by J.A. Redmerski

BLITZ: The Edge of Always by J.A. Redmerski

a Rafflecopter giveaway Excerpt: I hear the water from the shower shut off, and seconds later a loud bang vibrates through the wall. I jump up from the chair, letting the remote control hit the floor as I rush toward the bathroom. The edge of the coffee table clips the shit outta my shin as I pass. I swing open the bathroom door. “What happened?” Camryn shakes her head at me and smiles as she leans over to pick the hair dryer up from the floor beside the toilet. I breathe a sigh of relief. “You’re more paranoid than I am,” she laughs. She glances down at my leg as I rub it with my fingertips. She sets the hair dryer back on the counter, comes up to me, and kisses the side of my mouth. “Looks like I’m not the one of us who needs to worry about being… Read more »

$100 GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: The Shadows Series by Marni Mann

$100 GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: The Shadows Series by Marni Mann

REVIEW Seductive Shadows is the first book in The Shadows Series by Marni Mann and I have to say, this little book took me by surprise. It’s a slow book, building characters and setting up first before plot, but some authors can pull this off and Marni Mann is one of them. She gets us acquainted with Charlie and Cee, her alter ego at “The Mansion” where she works as a high-level prostitute. Contrary to most prostitutes, Charlie likes this job. Not only does she get paid well, but she gets to be someone else while she’s there – she gets to be Cee, her alter ego in the mask. Everyone at the mansion wears a mask so no one will be able to recognize the girls or clients on the street. It takes a while for Charlie to realize that this is not an ideal life she’s living. She… Read more »

GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: The Devil’s Tattoo by Nicole R. Taylor

GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: The Devil’s Tattoo by Nicole R. Taylor

REVIEW The Devil’s Tattoo grabbed me right from the beginning and kept my attention for two main reasons—Zoe’s character voice and the setting. I absolutely love books set in Australia. I love everything about it, including the obscure slang that sometimes left me wondering. I don’t care, I still loved it. I thought Zoe was a great characters and the author did a really great job capturing her individual personality. She was cool, she was talented, and she was a survivor. But at the same time, she was very vulnerable. I loved that about Zoe. She was not a tough chick, and that’s unusual for a rocker book. I think there were a lot of very unique ideas in this book, starting with the setting.  Also, there were no drugs and I liked that. I’m OK with the drugs in a rocker book because it’s part of the trope, it’s… Read more »

Drew put his hat on and pulled it down just enough to where I could still see his eyes. He finally answered, and it wasn’t what I expected at all. “You’re the first girl I’ve ever seen surfing around here. I mean really surfing, not just messing around. That interested me. That’s why I talked to you those times. Because you were different. Like me. You’re a risk-taker, but something’s holding you back. Something happened to you. That’s why you’re… Read more »
