GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: State of Pursuit by Summer Lane
EXCERPT Here’s the thing that nobody tells you about being in love: It’s hard. Anything good in life takes work, and lately, a lot of blood, sweat and tears. My relationship with Chris Young has always been defined not just by mutual attraction, but by the fact that we were brought together in the middle of a post-apocalyptic warzone. Flowers and dinner dates? Never had those. Firefights and battle fatigue? That’s more like it. Wartime hardship has always been the dominating factor in our romance. It’s what brought us together, it’s what’s kept us together, and now…it’s what has torn us apart. Being separated from Chris is more difficult for me than being separated from my father. Because through everything, Chris has been the one that has kept my feet on the ground. He’s been the one to protect me, train me, and teach me how to survive. The fact… Read more »
KINDLE GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Peaceful Genocide by JA Reynolds
Peaceful Genocide is a young adult dystopian-ish SF story that centers around two central teenage characters. Mitzi and Deuce. Mitzi is as damaged as they come, while Deuce is as normal and well-adjusted as a teen can possibly be. While Mitzi has been abused by pretty much everyone she ever trusted, Deuce has lived a life dictated by football. He’s a team player. Mitzi… is not. Deuce is practical… Mitzi is paranoid. Deuce is calm… Mitzi is emotional, relational, and angry. Deuce is open to working with people, sees the bright side, and genuinely tries his best to be the strongest link in the chain at all times. Mitzi… not so much. So Mitzi and Deuce, along with two other characters, Paisley and Ralph, both of whom are much younger than our hero and heroine, find themselves in a top tier, but secluded, research facility where they say tests are… Read more »
$10 GIVEAWAY and EXCERPT: RecruitZ by Karice Bolton
“One-Mississippi-two…” Gavin’s words wrapped around me. I prayed silently to the same God I’d prayed to many nights before. He listened then and I hoped he’d listen now. I grabbed two knives that were in the kit and flipped the blades open, locking them in place. The anodized orange handles were larger than the actual blades. Not comforting. I handed one to Gavin. “There’s still a Louisville Slugger on the floor behind us,” Gavin said. His brown hair was cut short. That was one of the first things he did after we were vaccinated. A haircut and a shave to celebrate our survival. He still looked young but not as young as we both did before the outbreak. I slid toward the center console, crawling as far from the passenger window as I could get. Gavin’s breathing was heavy, and I felt the heat rolling off him as he continued… Read more »
$50 GIVEAWAY: I Am Just Junco Omnibus Books 1-3 by JA Huss
EXCERPT FROM CLUTCH BOOK ONE Tier throws down his rifle, takes a deep breath and looks at Moju. “My charge is out, give me all the grenades.” Moju leans heavily against the wall, fishes around in his pockets, and pulls out three canisters and hands them over to Tier. And that’s when I hear the clicking from the hallway behind us. “Shit! They’re back!” From the hazy cloud of thick dust a massive amalgamation of bot parts appears. I scream and both Moju and I train our rifles on the thing that comes towards us. We blast it back a few paces and it’s forced to reassemble. I steal a look at Tier and he’s already pulling the pin on the first grenade and running back towards me yelling, “Fire in the hole!” Moju dives for the corner as Tier grabs me and yanks me to the floor. The blast… Read more »
GIVEAWAY and SNEAK PEEK: RETURN: I Am Just Junco 5 by JA Huss
EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT OF BOOK FIVE – RETURN Expected publication date: December 2, 2013 “Junco?” Tier’s voice whispers next to my ear. “Junco? Ya awake, darlin’?” I tuck my head into my chest and whisper, “No,” so softly, even I barely hear it. His arm slides underneath me and then pulls me towards him. He lets out the longest sigh I’ve ever heard and then kisses me on the back of the head. “I love you, Junco.” My chest hitches as the tears build. “No, you don’t. You’re going to leave me.” He stays silent and this is when it all becomes real for me. He’s leaving. I’m not sure where he’s going or how it will happen, but he’s leaving. He’s not staying, there’s no happy ending for me. “Junco, listen—” “No,” I say back quickly. “I’m tired of listening to all the bad things people want to tell me…. Read more »
GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Through Glass by Rebecca Ethington
Through Glass is my kind of book. It’s dark, it’s gritty, it’s real, and not everyone lives. This story is a new adult, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, SF, mystery, horror… LOL… it’s got a bit of all the dark stuff in it, and I loved it. First of all, it’s got one of the best blurbs I’ve ever read. This book hooked me right away with the description, it was awesome. Secondly, even though it’s written in first person and we only get the main heroine’s point of view, Rebecca really did a great job distinguishing between Alexis and Cohen. Both survive a pretty horrific end-of-the-world scenario, but we don’t find out how differently each of them coped—despite being right next door, they could not communicate except through their bedroom windows—until much later in the book. I loved that moment when Alexis realized that Cohen’s house looked nothing like hers. The setting… Read more »

GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Escape from Eden by Elisa Nader
Welcome to my stop on the Escape from Eden blog tour hosted by YA Bound Book Tours. Click HERE to see the full blog tour schedule! REVIEW I’ve been reading a lot of YA lately, mostly because the best dystopians seem to be YA these days and Escape from Eden certainly qualifies as one of those. This is a brutal, well-written, and captivating look into a young girl’s view of a cult society she was forced to join as a small child by her mother. Mia is sixteen, she lives in a South American jungle under the thumb of a dictatorial charismatic religious cult leader called Reverend Elias Eden. She’s old enough now to understand this was not her choice and she’s smart enough to know that she really needs to get out of this place, like yesterday. But these vague thoughts become a crushing reality when her kitchen boss asks her to… Read more »
