REVIEW Visited is a young adult novel about learning to think of others before yourself. Joanna is dealing with a lot of changes in her life – changes she’s not necessarily on board with. Her relationship with her mother has changed a lot in the past year – especially since her mother remarried after being a single parent for a very long time. Joanna’s father died of cancer when she was younger and her mother had to struggle to raise her alone. So when Stan comes along, and then a new baby on top of that, Joanna is not feeling very generous. In fact, she’s rather bratty for a seventeen year old. This is how she finds herself outside on her roof star-gazing – feeling sorry for herself that her family backpacking trip in Europe the next summer will need to be cancelled because her mother and Stan are expecting… Read more »

RELEASE DAY REVIEW: My Unexpected Forever by Heidi McLaughlin
REVIEW First of all, I love this blurb. I really enjoy unconventional blurbs, I think it shows that the author is willing to take a risk and not just write up the same old same old when it comes to a summary. OK, now on to the book review. I loved Forever My Girl, the first book in this series and you can find my review here. This series centers on the town of Beaumont and the people who live there. Forever My girl centered around Liam and Josie, first loves who got separated by life and time, and then reunited with the tragic death of a best friend, Mason, who was Katelyn’s husband. There are a few topics in books that always get me and one of them is losing the love of your life. I cry like every single time. I was only a few pages into Forever… Read more »
REVIEW: Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley
REVIEW Indy Savage is a screw up, but I mean that in Lee Nightingale’s most “Isn’t-Indy-cute” sorta way. Oh. My. God. Why did I wait so long to read this book? I haven’t laughed so hard reading a book since Bridget Jones was locked in a Thai prison singing Like A Virgin in her Victoria’s Secret Wonderbra. This book made me laugh out loud, like guffaw out loud, really – more times than I could count. Kristen Ashley is a brilliant writer because she paints a scene in a book like an artist paints a picture. It helps that I have lived in the Denver Metro area for fifteen years, but I’m pretty sure I’d feel this way even if I wasn’t familiar with the city she was writing about. Indy is me. I’m a rock chick who never quite grew up even though all these grown up things sorta… Read more »
REVIEW: Taming Cross by Ella James
REVIEW Wow – Taming Cross was so good. One thing I LOVE about Ella James is that her writing is so SMART. She never assumes readers are stupid, she always assumes they’re smart. And that’s how she writes her stories. She researches stuff thoroughly so when you’re reading stuff in her stories about science or medicine, it’s all real. I love that about her because I’m a huge science nerd and that’s how Ella and I first met… I read her YA SF book HERE and I just loved it. It had so much cool SF in there, especially for a YA book. She did the same thing in Selling Scarlett with Cross’ accident – all his hospital stuff was so well researched and I loved it. In Taming Cross, Cross is out of the hospital, he’s recovering from a horrific motorcycle accident, and he’s just sorta lost. Poor Cross. … Read more »
REVIEW: Time’s Forbidden Flower by Diane Rinella
REVIEW: Time’s Forbidden Flower once again has us visit the lives of Lily and Donovan, siblings who fell in love as teenagers and have denied their love because they had to conform to the norms of society. The first book, Love’s Forbidden Flower was a heartbreaking look at how forbidden love can destroy a person. Lily, always the strong one in this relationship, was willing to put it all on the line, live a lie and deny their sibling relationship, while Donovan was always being pressured by his mother and father to stay away from Lily or they would have him declared a pedophile. That book tore me up. The second book is just as touching. For such a taboo subject, it is handled with class. Lily and Donovan have moved on, they each have families, they each have children, they each have jobs that fulfill them. But when… Read more »
