How to Do a Book Trailer

How to Do a Book Trailer

How to Do a Book Trailer by Rebbekah Ford Author of Beyond the Eyes Buy Beyond the Eyes Amazon Barnes & Noble Smashwords I never thought I could do a book trailer because frankly I am less than proficient at computers. However, I figured out how to do one and it’s free! So if I can do it, so can you. Seriously. I’m not very good or knowledgeable when it comes to technology. Hell, I don’t even own a cell phone or know how to use one. So yeah, if I can make a book trailer, I know you can too. Oh, and as a side note, there are several ways you can make a book trailer. You can make it as an actual movie with actors portraying your characters, you can use animations, or you can use still photos set to music with the storyline written on the photo, which… Read more »

Interview with Rebekkah Ford – Author of Beyond the Eyes

Interview with Rebekkah Ford – Author of Beyond the Eyes

Buy Beyond the Eyes Amazon Barnes & Noble Smashwords Hi Rebekkah!  Thanks for being my guest at New Adult Addiction.  I just finished your new book, Beyond the Eyes, and loved your protagonist, Paige.  It seems to me that Paige is somewhat fragile and emotional, yet also strong and determined.  How did you come up with the idea for Paige’s character? Thanks for having me. The idea for Paige just came to me. However, I have to admit her feelings of abandonment regarding her father stems from my own personal experience. So some of the aches she had in her heart were mine as well.  I have a pet peeve on my blog about the “V” word (virgins) but that’s mostly because I deal in New Adult books.  In your young adult book, Paige starts off “innocent” but gains some experience as the story progresses.  Have you gotten any blow-back… Read more »

How We Hate the Insta-Love, Smart-Ass, Cliché Romance

How We Hate the Insta-Love, Smart-Ass, Cliché Romance

Did it start with Twilight? Or was that just the first time we noticed it on such a big scale? I’ve seen a lot of hate over the insta-love in the reviews of other authors. I can relate to the frustrated reviewers because it’s hard to respect the insta-love some characters seem to have for one another these days. Ditto for pointless smart-ass dialog. My book series, I Am Just Junco, is not a romance, but there is a romantic sub-plot between the two main characters (Junco and Tier). When I set out to develop their relationship I only had three hard and fast rules: No insta-love No smart-ass comments unless the other character deserved it No pointless arguing just for the sake of cute one-liners In fact I went out of my way to make Tier careful – believe me when I tell you Junco deserves a little extra… Read more »

Review for Crow’s Row by Julie Hockley

Review for Crow’s Row by Julie Hockley

Crow’s Row is an enigma for me – it grabbed me right away – and that’s good because I’ve decided that I’m no longer interested in sticking it out trying to read a book that’s not captured my interest just for the sake of reviewing it on my blog.  I’m busy – super freaking busy, so why spend time reading stuff I’m not really interested in just to say I read it.  But, at times I was frustrated about the slow initial pace and once again, the “V” word.  Can we get over the whole virgin thing?  This is new adult, right?  Spice it up for F’s sake. OK, anyway.  This book has a lot going for it and so I’ll start there: Very original idea with the illegal drug industry.  I’ve not read about this one before so it’s a nice change from the paranormal stuff I’ve been reading…. {Blog Tour} Guest Post & Giveaway: I Am Just Junco Series by J.A. Huss

{Blog Tour} Guest Post & Giveaway: I Am Just Junco Series by J.A. Huss

{Blog Tour} Guest Post & Giveaway: I Am Just Junco Series by J.A. Huss My Favorite High-Tech Gadgets in Clutch Part of the fun of reading science fiction is learning about new tech items that the author dreamed up. Sometimes they go overboard and everything in the everyday world of the characters is something new and cool. I hate that. It makes things feel fake and I like the tech in SF novels to be unobtrusive, only bringing it out when you need it. My favorite author, Richard K. Morgan, did this in a big way in Altered Carbon with the sentient hotel called The Hendrix. A sentient hotel! It played a small role in the overall story, but it was significant for the ending. I loved The Hendrix because it had badass weapons system built into its lobby and saved Kovacs butt in one particular scene. Plus, it was… Read more »

Review of Darkhouse by Karina Halle

Review of Darkhouse by Karina Halle

Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle was the funnest thing I’ve read in a very long time.  When considering what rating to give this book was tempted to give a four or maybe a four and a half just because there’s nothing real deep about the book as far as the underlying message goes.  It’s just plain fun. And then I started thinking I really need to come up with a scale so I can judge all books equally.  I mean, is plot the most important thing?  Character development?  Setting?  Theme? And I’ve come to the conclusion that it must have a combination of all these things, but that each individual book can have these requirements in different ratios and still be a five rating. Whew…with that said…Darkhouse is a five star book and I’ll tell you why it got the five stars and Fall From Grace did… Read more »
