Five Quick Questions with Author Komal Kant

March 16, 2013 Uncategorized 2

I’m so excited to have snagged Komal Kant away from her writing desk so she can answer five quick questions for New Adult Addiction. Welcome, Komal!  Komal’s current release is Falling for Hadie, the second book in the With Me series.

1. The With Me series, Impossible and the newly released Falling for Hadie, are mature young adult contemporary romances, but I’ve heard that you also have a paranormal romance coming out as well. AND…it’s about angels and demons, my favorite non-normal beings! How different is it to write contemporary versus paranormal, and do you have a preference?

I grew up writing fantasy because I love having that freedom to create something purely from my imagination, right down to a made up language. I’ve also written a lot of Contemporary from a young age, but the Paranormal/Fantasy genres were always so much fun for me to write. I honestly can’t choose!

2. The With Me series has two different couples in each book—what made you decide to structure your series like this?

Everyone has a story to tell, so I wanted to make it so that the secondary characters in my books also got a chance to tell their stories.

3. Luca, your main hot-dude in Impossible, has a bit of a bad-boy thing going on. How bad is he really? :) Don’t hold back…

Honestly? He’s actually not that bad. I mean, he has tattoos, is in a band, and doesn’t do what other people expect of him, but he’s an all-round nice guy.

4. Luca and Ashton (your main hot girl in Impossible) also have a friends to more-than-friends thing going on, so you completely avoided the insta-love cliché right off the bat in that book. Tell us why you decided to make them ex-BFF’s.

I love the concept of childhood friends who grow up and drift apart. I think this is a subject that most people can relate to. What I wanted to do was show how two people, who are so different to each other, could reconnect again. It’s so much fun to write about!

5. I also see you have some new adult books in the old idea queue, tell us more (lots more!) about these fabulous ‘possibles’!

I love the NA genre, and my books are on the verge of YA and NA, so I thought I would try to write a “proper” NA novel. The one I will probably start writing later this year is THE SLUMP, and it’s about a womanizer/player who runs out of luck when it comes to scoring women, so he tries to break his unlucky streak by bedding a “slump buster”. Unfortunately, his “slump buster” knows the type of guy he is, and he will have to go to great lengths to convince her otherwise.

Thanks for being here Komal, and I look forward to having you back soon!

Thank you so much for having me!

Ashton Summers is on her way to becoming the most popular girl in school and nothing—or no one—is going to stand in her way. Especially not Luca Byron, her freak neighbor, with his tattoos, loud music, and distracting green eyes.

Luca Byron has three goals in life: get through high school with a low profile, make sure his garage band becomes something more than a hobby, and try to forget about his insufferable ex-best friend, Ashton, who he can’t get out of his mind.

The last thing Ashton and Luca want to do is rekindle their friendship, but when Ashton takes a tumble down the social ladder, Luca—with his new makeover—is the only one who can help her rise up again by pretending to be her boyfriend. At first, being together is unbearable and annoying, but things start to change as Ashton and Luca discover the real reasons they drifted apart seven years ago.

Now, keeping their hands off each other seems impossible.

Falling in love was the last thing Lincoln wanted to do, so how will he convince himself to fall out of it?

Komal Kant lives in Sydney, Australia with her husband, and one too many dogs and cats (although she never seems to think they have enough!). She is the author of IMPOSSIBLE (With Me, #1), a Young Adult Contemporary Romance about a girl who will do anything to become popular, and the rocker boy-next-door.
Currently, Komal is working on the second book in the With Me series, FALLING FOR HADIE which is about a girl trying to get over a bad break up, and the new boy in town who helps her recover. Her second release of 2013 will be RUNAWAY MORTAL, the first novel in a Young Adult Paranormal series.
Komal talks too much, laughs too loud, sings out-of-tune, and generally says inappropriate things at appropriate times. She is overly enthusiastic about video games, comic books, Spiderman, Batman films, Byronic heroes, horror movies, baking and pretty shoes.
