Series: The Legends Of Elyndia, #1

Publication date: April 25th 2013
Genre: YA Fantasy

Can fighting for the right side be the wrong thing to do?

Draven, the tyrant ruler of Elyndia for the last one thousand years, searches for the one who can fulfill his prophecy.

The Paladins, an elite band of warriors sworn to protect their way of life at all cost, search for the one with the ability to bring their world crumbling down.

An innocent girl, tormented by demons only she can see, lives on the brink of insanity and longs for a life of peace.

When seventeen-year-old Jade Rosenberg reads from an antique book, she has no idea she just read an incantation awaking her inherited power. But when opposing—and equally terrifying—groups invade her home, she learns she is descended from an enchanted realm and a member of a powerful race thought to have been hunted to extinction.

Ripped from her world, Jade is forced to seek refuge from those who want her dead. She is given one of two options and the time has come for her to make a choice: assassinate their sworn enemy…

Or sacrifice her soul.

What is your writing process?

I am an outliner. In the beginning I used to make everything up as I went. As much fun as it was to let the words flow across the page, it made one heck of a mess. Now I establish the important plot points and fill in around them.

What do you do for fun?

Around home I mostly just read and write. (Yes, I still find writing fun even though it is a ton of work.) During the spring and summer my husband and I spend our free time at the Oregon sand dunes. I ride a quad and he rides a dirt bike. I’ve been riding since I was eight years old.

Who was your favorite character to write?

It is a tie between Theron and Shada.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Yes, write and share your work with others that can offer helpful advice. The best way to learn is by doing.

If you are brand new and have no idea where to start, read Story Engineering by Larry Brooks. It gives you a step by step on how to draft a story.

Other than your own characters, if you could have your favorite literary characters over for dinner, who would it be?

Evie from Paranormalcy,  Penryn from Angelfall (lord knows that girl could use a break, and a meal), Legolas and Professor Snape. I would love to watch Snape just sit and sneer at everybody.

Can you tell us a little bit about Jade and Gabriel?

Jade is girl a girl struggling with an uncertain future and Gabriel is a boy tortured by an unsettled past.

Can you tell us anything about yourself that we may be surprised to know?

I have competed in a Tae-kwon-do tournament and I used to be a belly dancer.

About the author…
Kriston Johnson lives in Southwest Washington with her husband, teenage son, and miniature Australian Shepherd. Her home rests at the fringe of an old growth forest that she insists is the home of Jason Voorhees. Her husband thinks that’s a ridiculous assumption, because everyone knows it’s really Bigfoot. Every summer Kriston participates in the annual pilgrimage to Faerieworlds, a real life faerie realm here on Earth, and has an unhealthy obsession with Star Wars, The Vampire Diaries, and Iron Man. Awakened is her first novel. You can visit her online at
