Shay and TST aka Evan Arden
Nice
- How old when you started writing, and how did you get into it?
I think I’ve always been into writing, but didn’t start doing it seriously until the mid-nineties. I wrote my first full-length novel then. When I went back and read it a couple of years later, I realized how bad it was. Ha! It will never see the light of day.
- Favorite book?
I’m a huge fan of anything Douglass Adams.
- Favorite go to song/band?
Rammstein
- Favorite place to visit?
Anywhere warm with a nice beach. I love Miami and hope to get to Hawaii sometime soon!
- How do you pick your characters’ names?
I use a lot of names from my favorite soccer players. I also base some characters off real-life friends (with their permission). Jonathan from the Evan Arden series is a great example of that. He’s “custom.”
- Best inspiration when writing?
I get a lot of inspiration from songs, but I need everything quiet when I’m actually writing. Usually it will be a single line of a song. A lot of Otherwise Occupied was based on a line from a She Wants Revenge song – “someone must get hurt, and it won’t be me.”
- Favorite movie? TV show?
Movie – Star Wars – all of them. Also a little-known Edward G. Robinson flick from the 30’s called “Two Seconds.” TV – I love Spartacus. Naked gladiators. Yum! I appreciate a series that shows as much cock as it does tits and ass.
- Favorite beverage of choice?
Vodka, usually in some kind of martini. (I’m surprised it’s not the Chocolate Cake Shot…)
- How long does it typically take you to write a book?
Depends on how quickly it’s flowing! Lol! I type fast, and can write 1000 words an hour when I’m on a roll. About three-fourths of Bastian’s Storm was written in two weeks.
10. What’s the hardest scenes to write? The easiest?
Smut is actually very difficult for me to write. It’s difficult to keep it fresh and interesting. I always write from the orgasm backwards. I don’t know why, but it works for me!
The easiest for me to write is dialogue. I can hear it in my head – my fingers just have to get it down. Usually they can’t quite keep up with my brain.
11. How did you ask TST to be your cover model? How did you get TSB?
With TST it was easy – I just asked him. I knew he was my Evan Arden the first day I met him. He has such a wonderful intensity about him, which fit Evan perfectly. Add that “military” look into the mix and…swoon! Using TSB for Bastian was actually TST’s idea – he knew I needed someone really big, and TSB had the perfect form – rugged and dangerous looking. They both work at the same gym. At this point, I have a bunch of the other trainers lined up wanting pictures done. HA!
It seems like you are really good friends with TST, any fun stories to share? Are TST and TSB friends?
In the short time I have known him, TST has become one of my most valued friends. He has this wonderful bad-boy look about him: he drives a huge diesel truck, rides a super-fast motorcycle, has all the muscles and the guns – he screams alpha male. Once you get to know him, you find out how thoughtful, tender and endearing he can be. He’s completely dedicated to his family and friends. He’s also incredibly smart and insightful. He’s like the perfect book-boyfriend come to life.
Fun stories: there are so many, I don’t know where to start! In Miami we went skydiving, (see below) which was FABULOUS! I had always wanted to go, but could never find anyone to go with me. Before you can jump, you have to sign this seven page waiver going over the various ways you’re likely to die. TST just said “fuck it” and signed. It was an incredible experience, which I definitely plan on writing about in the future! We also have fabulous (and totally unprofessional) discussions during our workouts. I sure hope no one ever listens to us too closely!

TST and TSB have a great working relationship, and I think they also hang out after work on occasion. (I’ll volunteer to hang out with them anytime…)
Naughty
- What are your favorite sex scenes to write? What are the most difficult?
I like writing the hard and fast sex scenes – characters that are so full of passion they just can’t wait to connect with each other. I think writing any sex scene is difficult because there’s so much that has to go into it to make it right – the action itself, the tactile sensations, the thoughts and emotions – they all have to tie in together or it doesn’t work.
- Any tattoos? If so, how many?
No, but TST has been trying to talk me into it.
- Any public sexual encounters?
I plead the 5th.
- Favorite sexual position?
Elbows and knees, ass in the air. Pound me.
- Favorite undergarments?
Lacy panties for me, low-slung boxer-briefs for guys.
- Do you ever test out your sex scenes in real life?
Of course.
- Who is your celebrity crush?
Liam McIntyre. I was lucky enough to meet him last summer in Atlanta (see picture below). I’d followed him on Twitter since he took over the role of Spartacus in Spartacus-Vengeance (Starz). He always seemed so genuine through his tweets, and he did not disappoint in person!

- Do you have a book boyfriend? If so, who is your favorite?
Ok, this might be a little odd, because this is well out of the Romance realm, but it’s Drizzt Do’Urden from Salvatore’s Forgotten Realm series. He’s a Drow (dark) elf, and the epitome of a tortured soul. Sexy and dangerous, but he never seems to get any. Poor guy…
