BOOK SUMMARY:

Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you—in the most heartbreakingly beautiful way.

Gavin’s story.

I fell in love hard and fast as lightning. As quick as she came into my world she was gone. Demi said she has secrets—that she’s done horrible things. Who hasn’t? I’m not going to let the past determine our future. Sometimes love lays forever at your feet and sometimes you need to fight for it. Demi is worth every damn battle we’ll have to go through. I’d burn down the world just to keep her safe. And, after what I’ve discovered, I just might have to. All I need with Demi is one more night to convince her we’re worth it. And that one night is going to cost me everything.

REVIEW:

****4 Beautiful Stars****

Beautiful Illusions… I’m still processing this book and I read over a week ago. There are parts that made me cry, swoon, and fall in love with…but there’s something holding me back from putting this book on my top favorite list. The story is heartwarming as much as its heartbreaking.

The story starts out with Demi running. She has secrets. She has a horrid past. She believes she’s bad luck; that she brings nothing but sadness and hurt to those she loves. Gavin is supporting his younger sister and trying to make ends meet since his parents died in a car accident. Both these characters sought sex as a way to feel love, even if it was for a few moments. Both are self declared sluts…who connect in a very real and deep way.

Fate brings these two together and it took a twist I didn’t see coming in this story to make me realize how cruel Fate can be. But that’s not the only obstacle these love birds face. Circumstance after circumstance, secret after secret, people after people, tried to tear these two apart…and succeeded time and time again. And maybe that’s what is holding me back from falling completely in love with this book. Because this book has all the ingredients to be a top book favorite of mine, and it’s nearly there…but something held it back. While I loved Gavin and Demi for different reasons, I never truly connected with these two characters. Right when I nearly connected and felt I was one with Demi, time fast forwarded to quickly, and the connection was severed. And right when I was back on the same page with this couple, my feelings jumping all over the place trying to figure what side is up and what side is down,  one too many WTF momemts happened and I had to step away from the connection, gather my thoughts, and continue on. Now, I love a good twist in a book. I really do, you know the twists that make your stomach drop, make you gasp out loud so that you’re significant other asks you what you’re reading, and those happened with this book, but it was one too many times in a really rapid succession. It was just too much- it didn’t keep the feelings real for me.

So what did I love about the book… there’s lots. The set up between these characters is golden. There’s a lot to love between these characters—chemistry and great sexual tension right from the start. Now, this is my own damn fault, but I think I would of enjoyed the book more if I read book one prior to this book, to make the secondary characters stand out and mean more, but they still rocked in the book. I love angst, and there was lots of angst in spurts throughout the book—but I tend to be a fan of brutal angst. I like the distraught and the pain to be felt—and that wasn’t always there in this book. I wanted to see the devastation in these characters in detail when they were apart…I like to be tortured!   But, I’m still thinking about this book. I’m still processing Gavin and Demi’s journey, and that alone makes me realize that I overall liked escaping to Loveless. And I’m planning on doing it again with reading book one!

Gavin is a keeper. Demi is one lucky girl and I hope they live happily ever after, because they certainly deserve it! Four stars!!!
