GUEST REVIEW: Beautiful Addictions by Season Vining

GUEST REVIEW: Beautiful Addictions by Season Vining

Beautiful Addictions by Season Vining Publication date January 28th, 2014 I would like to thank both St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this eARC. Although I received this book for free, in no way did that influence my review. Twenty-two year old Josie Banks leads a rough life by most anyone’s standards. She does whatever drugs she gets her hands on, sleeps with total strangers for drugs, a place to sleep, or simply as a distraction from her messed up life. She doesn’t remember life being anything other than hard. Her life consists of her tagging around the city, drugs, sex, and bringing food to her friend Gavin, who then distributes it to the homeless kids in the area. The only time that pattern is interrupted is when her former social worker, Monica, stops by her place. Monica is always trying to get Josie to clean… Read more »

GUEST REVIEW: Where I End and You Begin by Andra Brynn

GUEST REVIEW: Where I End and You Begin by Andra Brynn

REVIEW First Lines: So. This is a ghost story. I think my biggest concern is that people will read those first few lines, and actually a good bit of the first chapter, and assume that this is a paranormal story and it’s not. The main character does have a bit of an obsession with ghost stories, and imparts some interesting info on ghosts in general from different cultures, but the actual “ghost” here is really nothing more than a parallel metaphor. So don’t pass this one up because you take that part of the story literally. I already had this book in my TBR read list, but then a friend mentioned that it was available for free and so I snagged it. I’m really glad that I did. I read it in one day, and I’m still kind of reeling from it. To say that the main character, Bianca, is… Read more »

GUEST REVIEW: Dying Is My Business by Nicholas Kaufmann

GUEST REVIEW: Dying Is My Business by Nicholas Kaufmann

GUEST REVIEW BY ISIS! I would like to thank NetGalley for offering me access to works published by St. Martin’s Griffin, and St. Martin’s Griffin for granting me the chance to read this ARC, and introducing me to this author, all in exchange for an honest review. Though I received the e-book for free that in no way influences this review (which anyone who reads my reviews knows). In my world we would be able to rate books with 1/2 stars, but we can’t so my official rating is 4 stars, but my REAL rating is 4.5 stars. Given his line of work in the employ of a psychotic Brooklyn crime boss, Trent finds himself on the wrong end of too many bullets. Yet each time he’s killed, he wakes a few minutes later completely healed of his wounds but with no memory of his past identity. What’s worse, each… Read more »

GUEST REVIEW: The Mephisto Mark by Trinity Faegen

GUEST REVIEW: The Mephisto Mark by Trinity Faegen

GUEST REVIEW FROM ISIS Read from September 06 to 13, 2013 First I would like to take a moment to thank Pink Publishing, LLC for granting g me the privilege of reading an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The fact that I received the book for free in no way impacts the content of my review. This book actually rates a 3.5 for me, but closer to 4 than 3, so I rounded up. This book deals with domestic abuse, pedophilia, and rape, so please be forewarned that this is intended for a more mature audience. I will start by saying that this is the third book in the Mephisto Covenant series, but works as a stand-alone, which is how I read it. Please be aware that there are potential spoilers for the prior two books within the review, so turn back if you’ve yet… Read more »
