My Top Reads of 2016

My Top Reads of 2016

Well… at least there was some fabulous books out this year! This year was a busy one for me professionally and personally, so I didn’t have the chance to read as much as I would have liked, but I still have a few favorites! Here are some of my favorite, most memorable reads of the year. Looking back over the year, I can tell I was busy. When I’m busy, I tend to read funny, charming, witty books—-that allow me a total escape from the chaotic routine of my daily life, and these books allowed me that needed break. In no particular order: Right by Jana Aston Anything by Jana is hysterical and steamy. Right is one of the funniest books I read this year, and Everly is my spirit person. I loved everything about this story. Everly and Sawyer’s chemistry is off the charts, add some humor and witty… Read more »

Review & Excerpt: The Darkest Torment by Gena Showalter

Review & Excerpt: The Darkest Torment by Gena Showalter

REVIEW: Confession of a book junkie… After I read Twilight in 2008, I became OBSESSED with all things paranormal. Starting in 2009, I was the lady who was at my local Barnes and Noble every Tuesday, waiting for the newest paperback release. I read everything PNR back then…everything. I read the whatever the paranormal goddesses wrote; including all the BDB novels and spinoffs—Zsadist lover forever!, the Sookies, Immortals After Dark, Midnight Breed series, Night Huntress (love me some Bones), Demonica series—sex demons—yes, please, the list goes on and on. One of my favorite PNR series, is the Lords. The Lords of the Underworld world captivated my life for years! Book club topics were filled with the love stories of these demon carrying studs from Budapest. Talk about an alpha hunk with a heart of mush…gah, I love them all! I took a break from paranormal romance a couple years ago,… Read more »

REVIEW: Trust by Jana Aston

REVIEW: Trust by Jana Aston

The perfect rom com in book form is here! This book gave me all the feels. ALL. THE. FEELS. I laughed out loud. Numerous of times. I smiled so much, my cheeks ached. I fell in love! Chloe is the most perfectly awkward character. You just immediately fall in love with her spirit and connect with her imperfections, which make her perfect. She has the doubts all women think about, she makes silly jokes when she’s on dates, and she’s addicted to serial crime TV. There is only ONE guy that could be PERFECT for Chloe, and that’s Boyd. Boyd is PERFECT. There is not another book boyfriend who is as perfect as Boyd is for Chloe. He gives me all the feels. This is a MUST read for anyone needing an escape from the everyday crap in their lives. This book made me forget what was going on in… Read more »

$100 GIVEAWAY and REVIEW and EXCERPT for FLING, by Jana Aston

$100 GIVEAWAY and REVIEW and EXCERPT for FLING, by Jana Aston

Jana Aston has a way of telling a story! Fling is a wonderful weekend distraction. Sandra is a quiet administrative assistant to the ever handsome and brilliant Sawyer (Right, Wrong series #2). She is captivated with Gabe, her boss’s partner, but refuses to let him or anyone else know her dirty thoughts and lust filled feelings. While in a meeting, her work bestie passes her a sex quiz to fill out to occupy their time until the corporate meeting ends. Sandra fills it out and goes about her business. Until she realizes it lands in her crush’s hands! With a nostalgia 80’s movie feel to this novella, I found myself smiling from ear to ear as Sandra navigates her wants and feelings in the workplace and in the bedroom. I enjoyed getting to know Gabe more in this story and liked his banter with Sawyer. Gabe, like so many of… Read more »

Review of Paper Princess by Erin Watt

Review of Paper Princess by Erin Watt

Holy BeGeezus. This book. It’s so not young adult. Is it? But it’s so my type of book. It’s has everything I love in a NA story. Angst. Absolutely. Badass, hot, arrogant guys. Yep, try 5 of them. Sweet heroine with a backbone and spirit. Check. Did I mention angst? Oh, yeah, I did. How about a whole lotta steamy thoughts, wicked actions, addicting storyline…   God, this book. I fought reading it for my own reasons, I really did. Then I was in a horrible book funk. Like I didn’t read a single word in two weeks. So I picked a random book from my ARC kindle library and went in blind. I didn’t even know what I was reading because it was a review copy from a promo agent. And it had no cover or title. About a few pages in I figured out what I was reading, and… Read more »

Review: Lucky Ball by Lisa N Paul

Review: Lucky Ball by Lisa N Paul

I have such mixed emotions with this book. It’s the perfect book for me, in theory. I love the sweet romances most in life. I LOVED Logan in this story; his patience won me over. Wren, I get her anxieties. I understand her trauma in high school. I also thought relying on the Fortune Eight Ball was a great and unique aspect in romance books. (It’s almost like watching a Hallmark movie but on HBO, my FAVORITE kind of movie, thus favorite ingredients for a book.) The reason for the mixed emotions… simple. I couldn’t really connect with the characters. I tried, really I did, but the third person narrative just isn’t my favorite. I’d five star this book with I could really get 1:1 with these characters, but I just couldn’t get totally invested in the story. If you enjoy third person, this is a definite one-click for you!… Read more »

My new favorite New Adult book… Undecided by Julianna Keyes

My new favorite New Adult book… Undecided by Julianna Keyes

I picked Undecided up on a total whim. It was suggested by Amazon after I was looking at another book. I’m not going to lie, it caught my eye because I thought it may be about a triangle. (I secretly love a good triangle book when I’m in the mood.) It is NOT a love TRIANGLE story. I repeat, it’s not a triangle love story. What it is, is a PERFECT combination of charming characters, angst int he best way, and witty banter throughout this new adult story. When I started the first chapter, I couldn’t put down. I was hooked. No. Seriously, I literally couldn’t put this book down. I loved every word. I loved each and every character (from Nora to Crosbie to the secondary characters I grew to love). I loved the setting (college romance is the BEST) and plot (second chance at doing better in school… Read more »

Review: Mr. Perfect by JA Huss

Review: Mr. Perfect by JA Huss

I don’t normally review Julie’s books here, but I can’t help it. I absolutely fell in love with this story. I hope you will go and one-click it if you haven’t already. Mr. Perfect is the perfect book to read these days. It’s filled with wit, charm, steamy sex, and a whole lotta feels. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. Everything around me became a blur as I soaked up this story with a smile on my face.   To be honest, I haven’t been in the mood for an ugly cry read or a story that makes me think and try to figure out what is going to happen. I’m busy. I have a whole lotta crazy work going on on top of being a mom and wife. I read to escape the daily grind. I read to forget the craziness that surrounds me and to… Read more »

Giveaway and Review: Right by Jana Aston is LIVE

Giveaway and Review: Right by Jana Aston is LIVE

Right is the best kind of book in my opinion. Lately, I’ve been in a book funk. I haven’t had that one book that I can’t put down and have a smile on my face the entire time I read it… until Right landed on my kindle.   In my busy, stressful life, there’s nothing better than sipping (OK chugging) some wine with a good book in my hands. On most days I barely have the strength to fold the laundry sitting pretty in my dryer, and the last thing I want is to read a book that will make me sad or emotionally stressed out. Right is the PERFECT book. It is SOOOO RIGHT. Everly is this boisterous, witty, and adorable female character who I fell in love with from page one. She made me smile so hard my cheeks hurt. I connected with her immediately and she took… Read more »
