GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Through Glass by Rebecca Ethington

GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Through Glass by Rebecca Ethington

Through Glass is my kind of book. It’s dark, it’s gritty, it’s real, and not everyone lives. This story is a new adult, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, SF, mystery, horror… LOL… it’s got a bit of all the dark stuff in it, and I loved it. First of all, it’s got one of the best blurbs I’ve ever read. This book hooked me right away with the description, it was awesome. Secondly, even though it’s written in first person and we only get the main heroine’s point of view, Rebecca really did a great job distinguishing between Alexis and Cohen. Both survive a pretty horrific end-of-the-world scenario, but we don’t find out how differently each of them coped—despite being right next door, they could not communicate except through their bedroom windows—until much later in the book. I loved that moment when Alexis realized that Cohen’s house looked nothing like hers. The setting… Read more »

RELEASE DAY GIVEAWAY: No Angel by Helen Keeble

RELEASE DAY GIVEAWAY: No Angel by Helen Keeble

EXCERPT Our hero, Rafael Angelos, is in his first English lesson at his new school. His desk partner is Michaela Dante, a dark, smoldering beauty. Needless to say, Raffi is not exactly giving the teacher, Ms. Wormwood, his full attention… “So let’s hear from the male perspective. If you would tell us your thoughts, Raffi?” What few coherent thoughts I had at that moment were mainly about the view down Michaela’s top, but I didn’t think that was the sort of male perspective Ms. Wormwood meant. Dragging myself back into the everyday world, I tried to remember what the teacher had been wittering on about. Something about the summer reading assignment? What was the summer reading assignment? I hadn’t even read the back cover when I’d thrown it in my bag this morning. I glanced down now in search of inspiration, and discovered I’d taken out my Biology textbook. No… Read more »

GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Azure by Chrystalla Thoma

GIVEAWAY and REVIEW: Azure by Chrystalla Thoma

What a nice surprise this book was. I’ve never read any of Chrystalla’s books before this one, and for that I’m sorry. She’s a wonderful storyteller. First of all, the year of contemporary new adult might be over. I for one am just a little bit sick of contemporary romances, but yet – I still do enjoy them a lot if they are very original. Azure is something in between a contemporary and paranormal. It’s quite subtle, and for that I seriously have to give Chrystalla props. It’s something of a mermaid story – but yet… that’s not even close to what it is. First of all, the main heroine, Olivia, is not in any way paranormal. And the hero, Kai, might not be either. So where’s the paranormal aspect, you ask? Well, I’m not going to tell you. It’s a spoiler that I’m not willing to give up, because… Read more »

GUEST REVIEW: The Mephisto Mark by Trinity Faegen

GUEST REVIEW: The Mephisto Mark by Trinity Faegen

GUEST REVIEW FROM ISIS Read from September 06 to 13, 2013 First I would like to take a moment to thank Pink Publishing, LLC for granting g me the privilege of reading an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The fact that I received the book for free in no way impacts the content of my review. This book actually rates a 3.5 for me, but closer to 4 than 3, so I rounded up. This book deals with domestic abuse, pedophilia, and rape, so please be forewarned that this is intended for a more mature audience. I will start by saying that this is the third book in the Mephisto Covenant series, but works as a stand-alone, which is how I read it. Please be aware that there are potential spoilers for the prior two books within the review, so turn back if you’ve yet… Read more »
